Located in Radlett this project for five contemporary terraced houses sits in an urbanised area but with the backdrop of a series of beautiful mature trees. Each of the units has close to hand parking and access ramps for the convenience of its owners. There will be three floors of accommodation including a roof space, each unit to have their own balcony looking over the garden and the mature wooded area to the rear. Full floor to ceiling height glazing will be used on both the front and back to maximise light and connection to surroundings. Render with brick infill panels and slate roofs provide a robust and low maintenance solution to the site. This proposal is an innovative response to its context and desired function. Our main goal has been the desire to provide a proposal that responds to our client’s needs while respecting the surroundings. Our client would like to start a new development with the following requirements: – 5/6 new dwelling units in a terraced format – slope/driveway down to a lower ground floor garage with steps up to front door, a first floor and second floor in the roof space. – double or near double garage, perhaps an entertainment “cinema room” and a small utility room or storage on lower ground; kitchen, reception and small W.C. on ground floor with working fireplaces, semi open plan kitchen/reception room(s), with three bedrooms and a family bathroom on first floor and large bedroom with en-suite bathroom in the roof space with a second floor terrace at the rear of the properties facing out into the treetops of the mature wooded area behind. – sustainability and ecological considerations need to be incorporated into the building to achieve a highly efficient and yet simple to maintain the building.
